Making a quiet statement in South Lake Union’s colorful, rapidly growing Dexter corridor, 1110 Dexter shines through its mature, sophisticated palette and high quality materials. Fronting on Dexter, the building steps down to Highland Drive where it ‘floats’ over a parking area that is being updated with artistic metal screening that ties into the overall design of 1110 Dexter and enhances the adjacent plaza.
The overall massing was highly directed by the EDG Board. When presented with three massing options, the board picked parts of each scheme and asked the designer to marry them together. The result is an elegant insertion with dialed in massing proportions that create balance throughout the building. An underlying theme of chevron patterns are prevalent throughout the project, most strongly in the screening, siding, and handrails, and more unusually in the under plane of the rooftop canopy.
