We were grateful for the invitation to visit Studio Pacifica’s office to present a workshop titled “The Architecture of Communication: A Celebration of Identity & Narrative,” which explored the deep connection between Deaf history, visual communication, and the built environment.

Led by Senior Project Architect AIA, Benjamin Hait, alongside Deaf architectural designer Jennifer Harris, the workshop encouraged us to move beyond conventional compliance, framing communication as a shared environment designed and built together. Through the lens of Deaf culture, ASL spatial classifiers, and DeafSpace principles, we explored how centering lived experience can spark spatial creativity and elevate design quality across all project types.

A big thank you to Studio Pacifica for bringing us together for this meaningful conversation and inspired dialogue!

The presentation was inspired by Benjamin’s office presentation in April for Deaf History Month.
