After completing two summer internships at Weber Thompson and receiving a Master of Architecture and Certificate of Urban Design from the University of Washington, Jiao Mei returned to the firm as a full-time employee in the spring of 2020. Her keen graphic sensibility, dedication to sustainability, and collaborative attitude have quickly made her an integral member of the firm.

Born and raised in China, Jiao’s interest in traditional Chinese buildings ignited her passion for architecture. She came to the United States as an exchange student, and decided to stay to pursue her degree from UW and continue exploring architecture in the western world.

While in graduate school, Jiao’s thesis research was focused on metabolic urbanism and urban agriculture, and the site of her hypothetical comprehensive studio project was the present-day Othello Square project in South Seattle. Her vision was to create a cooperative-type model for sustainable urban development and vertical agriculture. On the real Othello Square project Jiao brings this macro thinking to the micro level as she helps her team bring life to this multi-building development that will be a hub of culture, community, and sustainability when it’s complete in 2022.

When she’s not creating architectural graphics or working on REVIT models, Jiao can be found cooking, baking, exploring the beauty of the PNW, or pursuing an adrenaline rush through sky diving, bungee jumping, or parasailing. She has yet to take a hot air balloon trip, but that’s next on her bucket list.
