Born and raised in India, Tanya was influenced by the rich architectural heritage of the Mughal and Colonial eras and found her calling in architecture amidst the rapid commercialization altering New Delhi’s landscape. Disturbed by the displacement of vernacular architecture with incongruous glass towers, she pursued a Master’s in Sustainability at the University of Pennsylvania, aiming to marry environmentally friendly design with modern needs.
A WELL Accredited Professional, Tanya’s commitment to sustainability is integral to her role at Weber Thompson. Part of the firm’s Sustainability Team, she actively contributes to advancing sustainable design and operations. Her work primarily focuses on creating equitable, healthy environments for Seattle’s underserved communities. Tanya’s notable contributions include her role as Project Architect and Designer for the affordable senior housing project, Patsy Surh Place and the award-winning Orenda workforce housing project.
Join us in congratulating Tanya Kataria for being appointed to the Edmonds Citizens’ Housing Commission! She is one of fifteen Commissioners to be selected out of 135 applications to be appointed by City Council members. This new task force will work to develop diverse housing policies to expand the range of housing (rentals and owned) available in Edmonds by 2020.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to contribute to alleviating housing issues facing my city. I hope to propose suitable urban design and architectural strategies and collaborate with other commission members to make a positive difference.”
The Housing Commission has held two meetings so far and have jumped into action by understanding planning principles and housing policies in Edmonds, and discussing opportunities for community engagement.
