West Seattle Junction — Seattle, WA
This Weber Thompson design weaves a set of new uses into the neighborhood fabric of the West Seattle Junction.
At California and Alaska is a set of nested blocks, each a specific urban design response. First a four story masonry building, anchors the corner. Second a lighter color masonry base, reflecting the existing retail on California. Third is a warm grey solid that locks the two masonry elements into a whole.
At 42nd Alaska is another assemblage of blocks, each a specific unit type. First, a block of two bedroom units fronts Alaska St. A block of loft units is next, with large areas of glass and shallow balconies. Last, the body of the building, an arrangement of one bedroom units, locks the other elements into a whole.
