Careful and creative interpretation of the downtown Kirkland Strategic Plan was at the heart of The Boulevard’s design. Located in a prime downtown spot, the building needed to uphold the area’s emergence as a world class pedestrian village.
In response, the mixed-use, residential building was deliberately articulated into two elements, creating an activated public plaza flanked by commercial retail spaces along Kirkland Avenue. The front of the building is layered to create small enclosed patios and balconies. An existing pedestrian throughway, seen as a crucial aspect of Kirkland’s pedestrian character, was enhanced and made into a central aspect of the design concept.
