Pike Motorworks

The site defines this project in the heart of Capitol Hill’s Pike/Pine District. A complex assemblage of properties anchored by the historic façade of a former auto dealer, the site occupies most of a city block but only one of the corners. Opening up the block with pedestrian connectors created an iconic development.

Pike Motorworks Architecture

For this unique site, our designers turned the project inside out. The design team developed two internal, public, mid-block connectors lined with sculptural art pieces, live/work, commercial, residential entrances and retail which has made Pike Motorworks a new gathering and shopping space for the greater neighborhood.

Preserving the past

On Pike Street, the south connector entrance is the former BMW Showroom, a brick and timber structure from 1926 that features a curved entry re-purposed as a focal point for the entire project. Incorporating this structure into the development largely made the project possible by allowing the building to rise an extra story above what the existing zoning would allow.

Balancing old and new

Crafting a fairly large development around this significant, yet comparatively small, building took respect for both the exterior brick façade and the interior volumes which designers took advantage of to create a high, transparent passage for residents. Rising from the base of the brick structure is a subdued, seven-level building with a quiet, controlled palette, designed to mitigate the size of the project and help the mass recede into the background allowing the complex, engaging pedestrian experience to shine.

Pike Motorworks Interior Design

Setting a new standard of luxury, Pike Motorworks features a dark urban minimalist interior that highlights the work of local and international artists, uses highly curated finishes, and contains spacious units with edgy and bold amenity spaces.

Moody and sensual

A dark, moody palette and organic undulating forms create cozy amenity spaces for meeting and socializing. Sculptural lights serve as beacons and placemaking tools throughout.

Irreverent finishes

Bold and unapologetic, Pike Motorworks makes a statement with unconventional finishes and streamlined details.
