Full-Service Design Firm Weber Thompson Unveils New Logo to Celebrate Opening of New Headquarters

Building is among Most Environmentally Sustainable in the Emerald City

SEATTLE – April 15, 2008 – Weber Thompson, a diversified design agency, is celebrating the opening of its highly sustainable headquarters by introducing its new logo and website.

The new building, logo and website cap a string of milestones for the firm that is now in its third decade of business.  Weber Thompson offers architecture, interior design, community design and landscape architecture.  Formerly led by three principals, Weber Thompson has nine new principals who lead multidiscipline teams that focus on intra-office collaboration, environmentally sustainable design and excellent customer service.

"Intensive collaboration and a commitment to environmental sustainability are hallmarks of Weber Thompson," says Principal Elizabeth Holland, director of Operations and Marketing.  "And the fact that much of our business comes from repeat clients speaks highly of our exceptional customer service."

Called the Terry Thomas Building, Weber Thompson's new headquarters is a working demonstration of innovative sustainable design principles.  The Terry Thomas Building shows that when it comes to sustainability, the firm "walks our green talk," says founding Principal Scott Thompson.  Thompson, who led the design of the building, is blogging about the project's challenges and rewards.  The blog is part of Weber Thompson's refreshed website: www.weberthompson.com.

The four-story Terry Thomas building is Seattle's first major office building in decades to be developed without air conditioning.  The building's passive cooling system features operable windows, automated louvers and a courtyard.  Warm air is drawn into the courtyard, which acts as a chimney, sending the warm air skyward.

Fixed and adjustable sun shades on the building's exterior, as well as a light-colored roof, protect the building from solar heat gains.  Extensive thermal modeling has shown that the interior temperature will exceed 85 degrees only 18 to 21 hours per year.

Other sustainable features include a highly efficient hydronic heating system, ample daylighting, daylight sensors on office lighting, Energy Star equipment, low-flow plumbing fixtures and waterless urinals.

Weber Thompson estimates that the passive cooling and highly efficient plumbing systems will result in a 30 percent energy and water savings compared to a traditionally designed building of the same size.

Weber Thompson will celebrate the opening of its new headquarters with an open house this summer.

The 40,000-square-foot building is designed to meet LEED Gold Core and Shell certification and LEED Platinum Commercial Interior certification, which is the highest level possible.  LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance, environmentally sustainable buildings.

Weber Thompson's new logo puts an official stamp on the changes.  Seattle-based Belyea, a strategic design firm that specializes in branding and marketing, designed Weber Thompson's new logo.  The rectangular logo has intersecting strokes that symbolize the balance of the firm's disciplines and reflect the team's focus
on collaboration.

The strong orange symbolizes passion and vibrancy, and the movement beyond the rectangle shows energy and an outlook that is both progressive and global.  The rectangle itself symbolizes stability and balance, and a team that is welcoming and inclusive throughout, both internally and with clients.

In addition to the new logo, Weber Thompson has dropped the "+" sign from the middle of its name.
