Sharing Our Knowledge of Low-Impact Development

July 29, 2008 – Two members of Weber Thompson's Community Design Team were selected to give presentations on low-impact development at a conference in Sequim, Wash.

Weber Thompson Principal in charge of Community Design and Landscape Catherine Benotto, AIA, ASLA, LEED AP, and Ginger Garff, LEED AP, Weber Thompson's project manager for LEED for Neighborhood Development (ND) documentation, gave presentations at a conference sponsored by Washington State University.

Benotto's presentation was titled "Site Analysis: Using it to Inform Your Design." She used the Weber Thompson-designed Fairhaven Highlands, the 82-acre planned development of 739 residential units in Bellingham, Wash., to illustrate how a site's natural characteristics can be used to plan a low-impact development.

During her presentation, "Using LEED ND as a Bluprint for Sustainable Communities," Garff talked about Sweetwater, a Weber Thompson-designed community in Hailey, Idaho.  The plan for Sweetwater is expected to be among the first projects in the country to be certified under the LEED ND pilot program.
