Madrona Offices at Mile Hill — Port Orchard, WA
Situated in a quiet section of Port Orchard, the Madrona Offices at Mile Hill will bridge the commercial and adjacent single-family residential zones with an emphasis on low-impact-development and energy efficiency.
This 2.5-story, 14,000 gsf office building takes advantage of its nearly square lot by orienting the building on an East-West axis. This orientation maximizes the potential for passive solar heat, natural daylight, and natural ventilation. In addition to these passive strategies, the team is exploring sustainable methods for actively heating the space including geothermal and a high-efficiency condensing boiler. It is also a goal of this project to naturally infiltrate 100% of the rainwater with a combination of rain gardens, porous concrete, and vegetated roofs.
Simplicity of design allows this office building to seamlessly fit into its context of low-density commercial and residential development.
