The Master Plan for Spokane’s Kendall Yards, is based on the creation of place, on the creation of enduring value and upon the defining values of diversity, sustainable urbanism and community responsibility.
Essential to the sense of place is the proper mix of uses, the provision of community open space and gathering places, celebration of view connections to downtown Spokane and the river, an appropriate scale and the right “fit”. Central to the values is economic diversity that includes a significant portion of accessibly-priced workforce housing, housing for young families and seniors, as well as high-end high-rise residential capitalizing on the spectacular views and proximity to downtown. Respect for existing and surrounding neighborhoods includes design sensitivity, contextual scale and a build-out strategy designed to encourage local re-investment.
