How long have you worked at Weber Thompson and what is your favorite thing about working here?
I’ve worked at Weber Thompson for almost a year now and one of the things I like most about working here is the support I get from the office and individuals to pursue my professional goals and balance work and life outside of work.
What project(s) are you working on at the moment?
For the most part my time has been spent on a 40 story high-rise residential project, 970 Denny, in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood. As my first project with Weber Thompson, it’s been a great experience with a great client and excellent team to work with. As that’s been winding down, I’ve been working on another high rise residential/hotel and focusing some time on a feasibility study for a potential hotel project.
Which aspects of your job get you the most excited?
I have a passion for hotel, restaurant, and hospitality projects in general and like to engage in the branding and concept development stage. I enjoy meeting and working with the people involved, the client and consultants, and listening to what they have to say and what’s important to them for the success of a project. When it comes to the day-to-day work, despite my calm demeanor, I tend to enjoy work most when the pace ramps up with a looming deadline, problem to solve or tight schedule.
We know you don’t work all the time. What do you do on a typical Saturday morning?
My wife and I joined a rowing club a couple years ago so my typical Saturday morning begins with an hour and a half of rowing in and around Lake Union. After that I often have a project around the house or garden to work on.
Where do you find inspiration?
When I’m out and about. Either walking around town, driving through the countryside or hiking in the mountains. I love to get away to see and experience my surroundings.
Share a little about your background. What brought you to where you are today?
I followed in my father’s footsteps deciding to be an architect early on. I spent a lot of my childhood drawing, building models, and helping my dad with home remodeling projects. Once I began working in the architectural field I found myself at a firm doing a lot of restaurant design and then hotel restaurants and lobbies. This is where I found my passion for hospitality work. Since then I’ve done a variety of project types but always a hotel or restaurant in the mix. Now at Weber Thompson, I hope to expand on that experience.
What is one of your current obsessions?
Rowing and being a part of a rowing club is my current obsession. I never thought of rowing before but since we started it’s grown into a passion and something my wife and I enjoy together.
What is one of your hobbies that not many people know about?
I love building and gardening and I have an endless number of house and garden projects that I enjoy doing which would qualify as a hobby. In addition I love to sketch, draw, and am eager to do more painting. It’s my most creative outlet.
What are you looking forward to both personally and professionally in the coming year?
Professionally I want to take my passion for hospitality to help build a larger portfolio of hotel projects for Weber Thompson. Personally I want focus on managing my time so I can balance work, home and what’s important for me to be happy and relaxed.
