Ballard West — Seattle, WA
A seven level, mixed-use project with 107 work force and affordable for rent units with 9,500 square feet of commercial including three live work units. The building sits on a half block parcel that fronts Ballard's busy 24th Street – a designated pedestrian street. The building’s base establishes a strong commercial edge by maximizing transparency at the retail area and incorporating setbacks to allow widened sidewalks and a mid-block plaza. The design is influenced by modern Scandinavian architecture and is broken down by the positioning of the tripartite massing. The sustainable landscape design includes the preservation of significant existing trees and a green roof. The project is pursuing LEED Gold for New Construction.
