Alderbrook Resort and Spa — Union, WA
Alderbrook is a quintessential Northwest resort nestled on the south shore of Hood Canal with breath-taking views of the water and the Olympic Mountain range. This venerable retreat opened in 1913 and over the years, many structures of varying styles and quality had been built throughout the 80-acre waterfront campus. The property has been transformed to a premier, full-service destination resort with 93 guest rooms and a four-star luxury rating.
Four of the primary campus facilities, including the main lodge building, along with 21 cottages were completely re-designed and all of the remaining buildings in the resort were demolished and replaced. A substantial, see-through lobby was introduced, providing a dramatic sense of arrival which showcases the canal and an important central commons space. The complex project even involved the relocation of a half mile of state highway to unify the campus.
Dan Foltz AIA, Principal, was the lead project designer while in private practice prior to joining Weber Thompson.
