Old-Town Mixed-Use — Redmond, WA
This residential project is located on a proposed pedestrian linkage/trail that connects the historic, retail core of Redmond to the Redmond Town Center. WT’s landscape designers created connections with the pedestrian access by turning a leftover section of site into a lush amenity. By creating a densely planted Trembling Aspen walkway, this narrow strip is made to feel larger and a world apart from its urban content. Pathways angle in and out of the trees and benches provide a place to sit, for both residents and the passing public, to watch the aspen leaves quake in the slightest breeze.
On the building’s two rooftop terraces the designers incorporated a live roof system that features different colored sedums to striate a seasonal color pattern creating an interesting amenity for the residents of the building, while also mitigating stormwater runoff and the heat island effect. Built-in planters and bamboo screening are also elegantly designed into the terraces to create a private outdoor environment for the residents.
